Terminator Genesis Reboot Renamed to Terminator Genisys

Arnold Schwarzenegger took to Instragram today so he could let the world know that shooting has wrapped on Terminator Genisys. Unfortunately, that’s not a typo; the word “Genesis” from the film’s original title has been reworked so it no longer appears in any known dictionary, urban or otherwise.

Around the same time as the announcement, the official Twitter feed for Terminator updated with the new Terminator Genisys logo that you see above.

The new name for Terminator 5 reads ridiculous on paper but does have a logical explanation behind its unorthodox spelling. By replacing “sis” with “sys,” the name now refers to the creation of a system that will most likely turn out to be Skynet.

The bigger mystery is how does a much older Arnold Schwarzenegger figure into the plot. A prevailing theory is that his Terminator model decays and ages over time, but that wouldn’t fit in with the creation of Skynet. Unless there was time travel, an integral part of each previous Terminator film.

Schwarzenegger shared this note along with the Terminator Genisys title announcement on Instragram, “Hasta la vista, baby. I want to thank the cast and crew of @TerminatorGenisys for a fantastic shoot. It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding. From our director to the producers, from the camera team to catering, from visual effects to hair and makeup – we couldn’t have done it without you. I can’t wait to see our finished project and I know we’ll remind the fans why they fell in love with the Terminator. On July 1, 2015, I’ll be back.”
