Krysten Ritter Lands Title Role in Netflix and Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter is Jessica Jones in Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones Netflix streaming series as confirmed and formally announced by the studio on Friday. She is the second of four big parts Marvel is casting for four series set in Hell’s Kitchen that will culminate in a mini-version of The Avengers.

The character of Jessica Jones in the new series was a superhero whose career was cut short in a tragic event. With her heroine days seemingly behind her, Jones becomes a detective who investigates cases involving the extraordinary that can otherwise not be explained.


Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones follow’s Daredevil starring Charlie Cox, which is set to debut in May 2015. Like Daredevil, Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones will run 13 episodes and also premiere in 2015, most likely within the last two to three months of the year.

The third and fourth Marvel and Netflix series will center around Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Casting on those series is expected to be announced next year for series debuts in 2016. Additional Jessica Jones casting should come in the weeks ahead.

Most recognize Ritter from her stint in AMC’s Breaking Bad where she was introduced in the second season and displayed great range as an actress whose character battled drug abuse. Ritter also appeared in Veronica Mars and Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23. Her next role is on the big screen in Tim Burton’s upcoming Big Eyes.
