The Flash Casts Firestorm with Arrow’s Cousin

The Flash Firestorm

Casting is really starting to heat up on The CW’s The Flash series as a second potential and probable superhero has joined the DC Comics live-action party, and this one already has a familial connection to the same universe.

TVLine is reporting that Robbie Amell has joined the cast of The Flash as Ronnie Raymond, fiancee of Danielle Panabaker’s Caitlin Snow character. Caitlin and Ronnie both work at S.T.A.R. Labs where a particle accelerator accident transforms Barry Allen into the Scarlet Speedster.

In the DC Comics, high school student Ronnie Raymond eventually becomes one-half of the superhero Firestorm (the other half being physicist Martin Stein). His fiancee takes the exact opposite superpowered path.

In the TV incarnation of Ronnie, he’s a maintenance worker whose actions play a role in the accident, and he will be introduced in the third episode. It’s too early to know when The Flash Firestorm character will make his live-action debut.

“Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg and myself designed the pilot and series to include Ronnie (aka Firestorm) – and to actually have someone with Robbie’s talent playing the role is beyond exciting,” noted The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti with the announcement. “We can’t wait for viewers and fans of the character to check it out.”

It’s no coincidence that Robbie has the same last name as Arrow star Stephen Amell. They are real-life cousins, and just last year Robbie took his first turn at The CW starring in The Tomorrow People, piggybacking off Arrow, though that Sci-Fi series was cancelled after a single season.

The Flash premieres on October 7 at 8/7c on The CW.
