FX Networks has been showering us with disturbing sneak peeks under the tent of American Horror Story: Freak Show over the past several weeks. From a caged woman to a devilish lick, there’s plenty of freaky AHS imagery to go around.
What’s been missing from FX’s marketing campaign thus far is a key element of the show’s namesake: horror! The freak show has been freaky to the eyes, but nothing in particular has jumped out as frightening until this latest teaser clip surfaced.
What you’re about to watch, ladies and gentlemen, is a brief American Horror Story: Freak Show trailer titled Peek a Boo. It starts innocently enough with a couple barefoot kids ducking admission and sneaking a peek inside the Freak Show by sticking their heads underneath one of the tents.
A third kid — wearing shoes — joins the fun by lowering himself into position. Then in a split second he is literally sucked into the tent before his friends can even react.
The prevailing theory is that Twisty the Clown is the abductor and he’s yanked that particular kid in because of the shoes, which might indicate he’s more affluent. The kids without shoes might be poorer so he gets a free pass, literally and figuratively.
As for the fate of the kid with shoes? I’m guessing he doesn’t survive because, after all, this is an American Horror Story, Season 4 to be precise.
American Horror Story: Freak Show premieres Wednesday, October 8 exclusively on FX.
