NBC NFL Kickoff 2014 Ratings Tip the Scales

The NBC NFL Kickoff 2014 ratings are in and the peacock network is all smiles today, as are the other channels that will be airing NFL games this season starting on Sunday.

A total of 26.9 million viewers tuned in to watch the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks use the 12th man to their advantage in befuddling the Green Bay Packers to continue their dominance at home. The 20-point differential drubbing likely didn’t sit well in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that drew a 44 rating, the highest of the metered markets.

Last night’s NFL Kickoff was the most watched television event in North America since the 2014 Academy Awards back in early March. It drew a spectacular 43.7 million total viewers.

This year marked the 13th year of the NFL Kickoff game on Thursday night. Seattle vs Green Bay ranked third among those games and drew approximately seven percent more total viewers than last year’s first NFL regular season game.

Watching NFL games online via TVs, gaming consoles and mobile devices continue to grow as the NBC Sports website recorded over 25 million minutes worth of streaming from last night’s game, a new record for the network. Expect more NFL online streaming records to fall as the season progresses and more people drop traditional cable in favor of watching programming online.
