The Walking Dead Season 3 Finale Episode 316

The Walking Dead: Season 3 wraps up shortly tonight on AMC with the finale episode 316 ‘Welcome to the Tombs.’ If you believe star Andrew Lincoln then what’s about to come will be nothing short of a bloodbath. During an interview earlier this week, Lincoln was asked for his thoughts about the finale and revealed that there will be a whopping 27 casualties in the one-hour episode – not including any zombie kills. If true, then Woodbury’s population is about to shrink dramatically and some core characters from the prison camp could be gone for good. Be sure to set your DVR or find online stream instructions for tonight’s episode below with Game of Thrones premiering its third season at the exact same time.

The penultimate episode of The Walking Dead last week wasn’t as much as set-up for the finale as it was a farewell to Merle (Michael Rooker), the bigot brother of Daryl (Norman Reedus) who went out with guns-a-blazing in a final act of redemption. Unfortunately for Merle no one saw his sacrifice other than The Governor (David Morrissey) and his goons that survived the attack, and there probably won’t be too much time to mourn.

In the prison corner we have a much more sane Rick that has ditched the Ricktocracy and gone back to democracy, letting his group decide their own fate. In Woodbury we have an enraged Governor who is coming for the prison come hell or high water. In fact, a preview clip for tonight’s episode shows the Governor attacking the prison and finding no one home, at least not outside on the grounds.

There is a lot of speculation floating around about how tonight might go down. I tend to think that Rick has set a trap in the prison’s “tombs” that the Governor will walk into and end up having to battle tons of zombies in close quarters. His small army will be greatly diminished – a part of the 27 deaths – while Rick leads and assault on whoever is left on Woodbury, including Milton. I expect the final showdown and big deaths to occur at Woodbury, and I expect one or more of Maggie, Glenn, Hershel, Judith, Andrea or Beth to not make it to Season 4.

A promo image shows the Governor’s posse headed out for the prison and the Governor talking to Tyreese and Sasha. I suspect this brother and sister team will not go to Woodbury and end up helping Rick battle the Governor upon his return. At that point the prison will have been officially left behind and road open to new territory into this fall.

The Walking Dead: Season 3 episode 316 ‘Welcome to the Tombs’ shuts the door on the 16-episode season with a likely violent sign-ff on AMC tonight at 9/8c, followed immediately by a live presentation of The Talking Dead with special guest Norman Reedus, amongst others. An official free live online streaming version of tonight’s The Walking Dead episode is unfortunately not available to watch. An alternative is to jump over to Amazon.com bright and early tomorrow morning here and watch tonight’s The Walking Dead finale episode in either standard or high definition for a minimal cost. Every episode back to the series premiere is also archived and ready to watch in HD.
