Tangled No Match for Harry Potter at the Box Office

Disney’s new take on Rapunzel with Tangled caught $11.8 million in its web of hair on Wednesday, a strong start for the mouse house’s last princess movie for awhile but not quite enough to topple the current king.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 continued its sweep of the box office with a strong $14.5 million on Wednesday. After only 6 days the second-to-last Potter film has raked in approximately $159 million in North American ticket sales as it continues its march toward $300 million or possibly more.

The other newcomers didn’t fare quite as well. Burlesque with singers Cher and Christina Aguilera struck enough of a chord to take $2.8 million on its opening day, good enough for third. Love and Other Drugs with Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal attracted $2.2 million in business. Lastly Faster with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson scored $1.6 million, good enough for sixth behind holdover Unstoppable’s $1.9 million.
