Robert Redford Negotiating for Role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Robert Redford Negotiating for Role in Captain America: The Winter SoldierMarvel is eying Hollywood living legend Robert Redford to join the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the upcoming sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger, according to a scoop from Deadline yesterday.

Per the scoop, Redford is currently in discussions to join the Marvel sequel as a senior leader of the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. This would put him into the same arena as Samuel L. Jackson, if not as a commanding officer above Jackson’s rank, as they track down and try to stop The Winter Soldier (formerly Bucky) with the help of Captain America.

In The Avengers, Jackson answered to – and eventually disobeyed – a mysterious group of individuals that he spoke to privately via video conferencing. It’s still unclear who exactly this group of powerful individuals area, though it’s certainly within reason that Redford’s potential role is one of them.

Captain America: The Winter Solider is expected to begin shooting in either April or May. It will be directed by the team of Anthony and Joe Russo with stars Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan and possibly Toby Jones returning from the first film. Newcomers include Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter), Anthony Mackie (The Falcon) and Frank Grillo (Crossbones).

Look for Captain America: The Winter Solider to arrive in theaters in 2D and 3D on April 4, 2014.
