Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Box Art and Region Locked Servers

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Box Art and Region Locked ServersFirst broken by Spanish game magazine GameReactor, the word is out that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will use region locked servers in its massive online multiplayer hunts, which will prevent hunters from North America from grouping together and hunting with other hunters from Japan, Europe and Australia, and vice versa.

While region locked servers are nothing new to the MH series, the advent of the Wii U’s social network, Miiverse, which allows for fraternization outside of the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate game, led many to believe that CAPCOM, and by proxy, Nintendo, who is actually hosting the servers for this title, would open up the MH world to, well, the world.

That apparently is not the case. But all is not lost. Yesterday on the Capcom-Unity forums, Yuri L. Araujo, an associate Online/Community Specialist for CAPCOM U.S.A., verified the news while voicing his own displeasure at the decision, and he pleaded on the Capcom-Unity forums for fans and hunters to let CAPCOM know that they are displeased, hinting that it is a something that could be changed at a later date.

One very big issue with open online servers would be communication and language, which is important when hunting a Red Rathalos with three others. One mistake could spell doom for all involved. Also, it is important to note that previous Monster Hunter titles were also region locked.

In more positive news, the final Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is out and viewable below. You will spot this case in stores when the game makes its North America Wii U and Nintendo 3DS debut on March 19.
