Rumors have turned to reality as Microsoft used Facebook this morning to confirm a May 21 live streaming reveal for Xbox 360 successor reveal.
While we finally know for certain when the next Xbox will make its big debut, we don’t know what it will be called. Microsoft used the code name “Durango” during the console’s development, a common practice when developing new hardware. Rumors ranging from “Xbox” to “Xbox 720” to “Xbox Next” are all floating around, but no definitive proof one way or another has surfaced.
Microsoft is billing the next Xbox reveal as a “historic online event” that will feature a “live stream, video, images, updates and more.”
Sony’s big Playstation 4 online live stream reveal a month ago dove deep into the next generation console’s library of games in development, as well as revealing a new controller and camera. It stopped short of showing the actual console, offering a release dare or a price.
I would expect Microsoft to take a similar stance and leave some goodies including price and release date off the table until E3 the first week of June. I wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft did reveal their console design at this event to steal a little thunder from Sony.
So mark your calendar for Tuesday, May 21 at 10am PST (1pm EST) for the big Microsoft next generation Xbox reveal on Xbox.com and Xbox Live.
