Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth Will Assemble on Kinect and Wii U

The Avengers Battle for Earth Will Assemble on Kinect and Wii UUbisoft and Marvel’s rumored team-up project became a reality today when the companies announced Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth for Xbox 360 Kinect and Nintendo Wii U.

Despite the recent success of Disney and Marvel’s The Avengers film at the box office, Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth is based on the Secret Invasion storyline that appeared in Marvel Comics. The artwork, locations and characters are derived from Secret Invasion, though we’ll have to wait until no later than E3 in a few weeks for our first glimpse.

Roughly 20 playable characters will be featured in the game including The Avengers core of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America. The other characters are remaining under wraps at this time.

As the chosen platforms reveal, Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth is a motion-based game and the first in this category to be based upon a comic property. Given how different the Wii U and Kinect systems work, one version might not be a direct port of the other, especially if developer Ubisoft Quebec decides to take advantage of the extra screen on the Wii U tablet controller.

Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth will be in stores this holiday season. We’ll know whether the Wii U version is a system launch title around the time of E3 in early June.
