Universal and Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 6 starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Gina Carano and a host of other actors opens in theaters nationwide this weekend and aims to reach the $100 million mark through the extended Memorial Day holiday frame. Reviews has been positive and no doubt many moviegoers will want to add the sixth installment into their Blu-ray and/or DVD library.
I had a hunch Universal would offer a Blu-ray and DVD pre-order of Fast & Furious 6 during the film’s opening weekend following not only the success they had pre-ordering Oblivion with Tom Cruise, but also the success Paramount has had with Star Trek Into Darkness and Marvel with Iron Man 3. The studio trend is definitely to offer home video pre-orders of tentpole films the weekend of their cinematic debut, and that trend is continuing with Fast & Furious 6.
Amazon.com officially launched their Fast & Furious 6 Blu-ray and DVD combo pack pre-orders overnight. I had checked last night to see if they were available yet and they weren’t. Early this morning tipster Josh spotted the pre-order had gone live and includes a “limited edition packaging” tag.
The current pre-order price for Fast & Furious 6 on Blu-ray and DVD combo at Amazon is $20.99. That works out to 40% off the $34.98 list price and is likely as low as it is going to go between now and the fall release. Should it drop lower before release then Amazon will automatically adjust any pre-orders to the lowest price.
I don’t expect Universal to formally announced a release date and share Fast & Furious 6 home video cover art for at least another 45-60 days.
