Dead Space Movie and Game Sequels in the Works

EA’s Dead Space game for Xbox 360 and PS3 has already sprouted a prequel direct-to-video CGI animated movie, a comic book, and a Nintendo Wii game. Based on the latest news it doesn’t look like the expansion is going to slow down anytime soon.

Per Variety, D.J. Caruso of Eagle Eye fame has been brought on board to direct a live-action Dead Space film. Screenwriters have already been making pitches to EA and co-producers Temple Hill with the distribution rights expected to head to auction in September.

The article also confirms Electronic Arts is working on not one, but two game sequels to the original Dead Space game. Electronic Arts has yet to comment on either sequel but the upcoming Tokyo Game Show this September might yield the first announcement.

Dead Space puts players in the role of a deep space miner responding to a distress call from a mining ship infested with dead humans whom have been reanimated via a virus into deadly Necromorph creatures. The film direction chosen will likely borrow from this idea while expanding into new territory better suited for the big screen.
