This week’s release of the Starship Troopers Trilogy on Blu-ray Disc gave us two easy candidates for Blu-ray Rise and Shine: Denise Richards and Dina Meyer.
Choosing between these two beauties was quite simple, actually. In Wild Things, Denise Richards took her performance and lack of clothes far beyond Neve Campbell. In Starship Troopers the role reversed for Denise. She was passive and mostly fully clothed while Dina stepped up and did whatever it took to “get what she wanted.”
Dina’s career is one carved in stone by the fanboy and film geek fans. In addition to Starship Troopers, she had roles in other sci-fi projects you may have heard including Johnny Mnemonic, Dragonheart, Star Trek: Nemesis and the short-lived Batman TV series spinoff Birds of Prey playing Commissioner Gordon’s grown-up crimefighting daughter. You might also remember her as Joey’s actress-girlfriend on several episodes of Friends or as a flirtatious “Cougar” in a short stint on Beverly Hills 90210 .
On Blu-ray, Dina has already made quite a mark by appearing in all four Saw films from Lionsgate. All of the aforementioned film and television projects are prime candidates for future release on Blu-ray, as are other films she appeared in such as Point Pleasant and Crazy Eights.
This week we plan to enjoy Dina’s memorably eye-catching performance as Dizzy Flores in Starship Troopers all over again. She was the kickass Starbuck while Starbuck was studying for grade school exams and thus is this week’s Rise and Shine winner… whether she wanted it or not.
