Battlefield 4 Upgrade from Xbox 360, PS3 to Xbox One, PS4 for $10

Battlefield 4 Upgrade from Xbox 360, PS3 to Xbox One, PS4 for $10EA is launching Battlefield 4 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on October 29. That date is obviously before Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One release in November, which puts buyers into an awkward situation: buy the current-gen version now and skip the next-gen, wait for the next-gen, or buy both and break the bank.

What EA has done is join a growing trend and offer a sweet upgrade option for those who want to have their cake and eat it too. The way it works is you can buy the Xbox 360 or PS3 version of Battlefield 4 on October 29 and start playing right away. Then when the next-gen versions come out, you can upgrade to either one of them for only $10.

Along with this announcement comes confirmed release dates for Battlefield 4 on Xbox One and PS4. Each will launch three days prior to their respective console’s debut; PS4 on November 12 and Xbox One on November 19.

Different retailers are handling this offer in different ways. Here in North America, all PS3 copies of Battlefield 4 will include a voucher with a unique code that allows you to purchase the digital version of the game for PS4 for $10 through March 28, 2014. That means you will not be able to utilize the $10 upgrade to score a physical disc version of the game.

Xbox One is being handled differently. Both GameStop and Amazon are offering a straight trade-in for the physical disc version on Xbox One. The catch here is that the offer is only valid through the end of the year. Specifically at Amazon, they are offering a $25 credit that can be spent on anything, plus $25 in trade-in value for the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 4.

Remember, all stats and accomplishments earned on the current-gen version of Battlefield 4 will pass over to the next-gen version in the same console family.
