Colton Haynes’ (Teen Wolf) introduction into The CW’s Arrow was relatively brief. As Roy Harper from the Glades he stole Thea’s purse, got tracked down by Oliver’s now super-sleuth sister Thea, presented a sob story that Thea bought, then chewed her out when she traveled into the dangerous Glades to retrieve her purse.
That seemed like the last time we would need to see Roy Harper as Thea left with her dignity shattered but with purse in hand. Quite the opposite has happened.
Haynes has been promoted to a series regular in Season 2 of Arrow and figures to play a much beefier role in the show going forward. The producers have teased that he will pop up again in Season 1 and begin a relationship with Thea, one that probably starts from their initial disgust for each other that turns into intrigue and eventually something more.
What Arrow fans are waiting for is the transformation of Haynes into Speedy, the archer’s sidekick. I wouldn’t expect to see Speedy show up in Season 1, but Harper’s evolution from thief into crimefighter is a story that could easily play out over the second season. We saw flashes of Harper’s skills when he stole the purse and escaped with a parkour move up a wall. I’m betting he’s got many more tricks up his sleeve.
Arrow returns from its brief hiatus this upcoming Wednesday, March 20 at 8/7c.
