Weekend Box Office Prophet Game: More Fame, Surrogates and Pandorum

Taking on Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, entering its second weekend, are newcomers Surrogates with Bruce Willis, the Fame remake, and dark sci-fi horror thriller Pandorum. None of them are targeting Meatballs' audience which should play a huge role in how the final weekend results shake out.

The Weekend Box Office Prophet game allows you to predict the total Friday-Sunday box office take for five films in millions of dollars. Fame (2009)
Dream it. Earn it. Live it. MGM is hoping for the middle tag to come through when the modestly budgeted Fame remake opens on over 3,000 screens. No star power and a weak time of year could mean Fame fails to find much fortune. Or, nostalgia will touch enough middle-agers who cannot get enough of 80s remakes.

Pandorum
Pandorum is a mix of sci-fi and horror found more frequently in video games than cinema of late. Whiteout's failure to deliver could pump a few more dollars into it, though don't expect a "Saw" big opening surprise. For reference, Event Horizon banked $9.5 million in 1997 on 2,350 screens. Pandorum is on 2,400.

Surrogates
Bruce Willis and action go together like cheese on bread. But Surrogates will have to battle I, Robot comparisons and trailers that try a little too hard to give away the story. Not to mention the poster campaign reeking of Sarah Connor Chronicles. Good reviews will be key. Surrogates opens on 2,700 screens.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Food fell from the sky and amassed an impressive $30.3 million its opening weekend. With no new "family" competition, Meatballs is poised to have another strong weekend and possibly remain in the top spot. Don't expect this one to spoil as quickly as other films of late.

Jennifer's Body
Megan Fox's first lead outing sans towering robots performed so miserably its opening weekend that I could not resist an encore to give you guys a "freebie." With a margin of error of only $6.9 million, how much it made last weekend, you should be able to come within + or - $2 million with relative ease.
