Weekend Box Office Predictions Game: Invictus and the Frog

Warner Bros. has pinned high hopes on Invictus, the latest from director Clint Eastwood that stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon that is scoring a solid 78% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes.

In Disney's camp is The Princess and the Frog, the first hand-drawn animated feature in years based on the classic fairytale. It currently is enjoying an even better 81% fresh rating.

The Weekend Box Office Prophet game lets you predict the weekend box office totals for five films. The difference between your prediction and the final tally for each film is then weighed against the other players to determine a top finisher. Likewise, the average score of all players is compared to the Prophet's score. View the main page with leaderboards.

If the average players score beats the Prophet, then the top finisher will win their choice of All About Steve with Sandra Bullock on their choice of Blu-ray Disc. Because the Prophet won last weekend, that prize of (500) Days of Summer on Blu-ray or DVD rolls into the pot for this round. So the winner will walk away with two flicks if the Prophet falls. If not, then both prizes roll into next week with a third added.

The average player scores will update in real time below as new predictions are entered. The entry period will close the evening of Thursday, December 10.

Invictus
Clint Eastwood's latest will try to lure moviegoers with its South African story when it opens on 2,150 screens. Last year's Gran Torino opened the same weekend on 2,800 screens to a total of $29.5 million. The difference? Eastwood's absense in front of the camera in Invictus.

The Princess and the Frog
Princesses are huge for Disney right now. Just peek in the window of any Disney store. Couple that with this film being the first hand-drawn animated feature from Disney in years and you have the recipe for a likely blockbuster. Tiana will kiss the frog and shoot for stardom on over 3,300 screens.

The Blind Side
We can't seem to shake The Blind Side and for good reason. The Sandra Bullock sports drama did the unthinkable and ousted New Moon last weekend after a healthy $20 million three-day score to wrap up its third week of release. Another drop is imminent but big or small is the question you must ponder.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Where The Blind Side goes, New Moon follows. Unlike the football drama, Twilight's second chapter has been suffering increasing dramatic drops as its time in theaters wears on. Last weekend it suffered a 64% drop from the previous going from $42.9 million to $15.4.

Brothers
Brothers had a rough go of it when it debuted last weekend to $9.5 million. The Lionsgate edgy drama playing off the war in Afghanistan is touchy subject for many, not to mention the hard themes aren't the best match for the holidays. At least Tobey Maguire's performance is being heralded as his best to date.
