Weekend Box Office Predictions Game: Armored Brothers Attack
December 01, 2009
The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Blind Side has been firmly perched atop the domestic box office results for two weeks running now. They have also both overachieved and made the last two rounds of our Weekend Box Office Prophet game a nightmare for each and every person who played.
The bad news is New Moon and The Blind Side will each make their third appearance in the game this upcoming round. The good news is Armored with Matt Dillon, Brothers with Natalie Portman and Everybody's Fine with Robert DeNiro should eat into New Moon and The Blind Side's screens and diminish what thus far has been huge room for error.
The Weekend Box Office Prophet game lets you predict the weekend box office totals for five films, in this round for the weekend of December 4-6. The difference between your prediction and the final tally for each film is then weighed against the other players to determine a top finisher. Likewise, the average score of all players is compared to the Prophet's score. View the main page with leaderboards.
New starting this round: If the average players score beats the Prophet, and more often than not they do, then the top finisher will win their choice of Fox's (500) Days of Summer on either Blu-ray Disc or DVD. If the Prophet wins then that prize will rollover into the following round and another prize will be added to it. So for example, if the Prophet wins five rounds in a row and loses the sixth, the winner of the sixth round will walk away with six rounds worth of prizes.
The average player scores will update in real time below as new predictions are entered. The entry period will close the evening of Thursday, December 3. Good luck to all.
| There are currently 50 players up against the Prophet The entry period for December 4 - 6 has already ended. Follow the weekly results at the Weekend Box Office Prophet main page.
ArmoredArmored looks to dish out an ample serving of double-crosses and action with stars Matt Dillon, Jean Reno and Laurence Fishburne doing the driving. Sony has revealed quite a bit of the plot via trailers which could point towards a lack of confidence. It opens on 1,900 screens, the fewest of the new releases. All: $13.3 Me: n/a Prophet: $9.2 Actual: $6.5
BrothersThere is no arguing Lionsgate's Brothers has a stellar cast with Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal vying for the affections of Natalie Portman. Reviews are decent too with currently a 64% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes. But it is dark and rated R which won't exactly bring anyone holiday cheer. Opens on 2,000 screens. All: $13.1 Me: n/a Prophet: $11.7 Actual: $9.5
Everybody's FineSpeaking of feel good films, Everybody's Fine is an American remake of that age old tale of a dysfunctional family coming together around the holidays. It stars Robert DeNiro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell with DeNiro's quiet performance already being commended in early reviews. Miramax will unspool it on 2,200 screens. All: $16.1 Me: n/a Prophet: $11.3 Actual: $3.9
The Twilight Saga: New MoonNew Moon returns in an attempt to win its third consecutive weekend after cruising to nearly $500 million in worldwide ticket sales in two weeks time. The first two weekends yielded $142.9 and $42.9 million, respectively. Will it be another big drop or steady as she goes for the big Twilight sequel? All: $27.7 Me: n/a Prophet: $18.9 Actual: $15.4
The Blind SideI keep wanting to call this movie "Blindsided" because it has been a thorn in the side of every player the past two weeks. First it opened high with $34.1 million, then it achieved the improbable by going up in week two to $40.1 million. What now? If only I had the answer. All: $25.0 Me: n/a Prophet: $19.5 Actual: $20.0 |
