Weekend Box Office Predictions Game: 4 vs. Alice in Wonderland
March 09, 2010
The Prophet blew his Alice in Wonderland prediction in the game's last round but still managed to beat the average player scores 4-1, even if by a small margin (see the results). We'll be shooting off a DVD prize to top place finisher davien but the jackpot prize rolls for another week.
This new round of the Weekend Box Office Prophet Game sees Robert Pattinson and his hoard of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse fans anticipating the trailer debut with Remember Me join three other newcomers including Green Zone with Matt Damon, Our Family Wedding and She's Out of My League try to make a sizable dent in Johnny Depp and Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.
The object of this game is to guess the final domestic box office dollars in millions for these five films from Friday, March 12 through Sunday, March 14. Your prediction is averaged in with the other players for a cumulative score to compete against the Prophet predictions.
Should the average player differences between the actual box office gross and predicted grosses beat the Prophet for 3 or more of the 5 films, the top player will win SEVEN prizes amounting to an instant Blu-ray collection:
- Mystic River on Blu-ray Disc
- Walk the Line on Blu-ray Disc
- Halo Legends on Blu-ray Disc
- Universal Soldier Regeneration on DVD
- The Running Man on Blu-ray Disc
- Gentlemen Broncos on Blu-ray Disc
- NEW THIS WEEK: Amelia on Blu-ray Disc
If the Prophet wins then all seven prizes will rollover into the next round and be joined by an unprecented eighth. We'll still award a small prize to the top place finisher (view the overall leaderboard).
Once you are logged in, the average player scores will update in real time below as new predictions are entered. The entry period will close the evening of Thursday, March 11, with this round's results being published in the next round's game page on Tuesday.
| There are currently 66 players up against the Prophet The entry period for March 12 - 14 has already ended. Follow the weekly results at the Weekend Box Office Prophet main page.
Green ZonePaul Greengrass and Matt Damon reunite after working on two Bourne films together for another action-packed romp. Green Zone does not have the power of the Bourne brand behind it, but Damon fans have been yearning for him to return to action after fattening up for The Informant! It opens on over 2,900 screens. All: $26.3 Me: n/a Prophet: $16.2 Actual: $14.3
Our Family WeddingOur Family Wedding is an atypical romantic comedy that hopes to draw from black and Hispanic audiences. See the poster art for proof. Forest Whitaker, America Ferrera and Carlos Mencia make for a strong cast, but the relatively low 1,500 screen count could cut down on the guest list. All: $10.7 Me: n/a Prophet: $8.4 Actual: $7.6
Remember MeRobert Pattinson and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse trailer premiere? That's a lot of reasons for girls to arrive in droves to see Remember Me, much less Pattinson and Lost's Emilie de Ravin making out in a variety of urban locations. The indie vibe it exudes might scare some moviegoers off, though. Opens on 1,900 screens. All: $18.6 Me: n/a Prophet: $18.7 Actual: $8.1
She's Out of My LeagueThe relatively unknown young cast of Jay Baruchel, Alice Eve and Mike Vogel star in this R-rated youth comedy in the tradition of American Pie and There's Something About Mary. Its beefy 2,700 screen count and lack of formidable competition could amount to a respectable opening. All: $16.1 Me: n/a Prophet: $12.5 Actual: $9.8
Alice in Wonderland (2010)You would be a fool not to pick Alice in Wonderland to win its second straight weekend at the box office. The $116.1 million opening last weekend points towards another big, though obviously smaller weekend ahead. None of the 4 new films will eat into Alice's 3D or IMAX screens where the higher ticket prices thrive. All: $61.4 Me: n/a Prophet: $69.5 Actual: $62.7 |
