The Giants lost in overtime to the Jets last week as their defense let a third string quarterback torch them for a 70 yard pass that set up the winning field goal. The backups are expected to get plenty of reps tonight as New York coach Tom Coughlin has stated that the starters will get 12-15 reps maximum before they take a seat for good.
With the likes of Eli Manning and Hakeem Nicks watching most of the game from the bench, the Giants will be looking to answer some final questions before rosters are trimmed this weekend to their final size of 53 players. One player on watch is wide receiver Ramses Barden who had a single huge game early last season but hasn't done much since, including the preseason. There are other rookies waiting in the wings so this might be Barden's last shot to make an impression else be on the chopping block.
The Patriots are coming off their bizarre whipping at the hand of the Lions by a score of 40-9. Tom Brady was pressured and didn't look comfortable at all during the first half as the Lions defense forced four turnovers. This coming after the Patriots had played like it was mid-season during the first two preseason games.
What was also interesting in that game was Bill Belichick only played two quarterbacks: Ryan Mallett and Brady. Tim Tebow did not play and could be on the cutting block after two pitiful performances in the first two preseason games.
The Patriots have a lot to prove after last week's drubbing against the Lions and should make short work of the Giants tonight.
