The Dark Knight Rises Includes Over One Hour of IMAX Footage

The Dark Knight Rises Includes Over One Hour of IMAX FootageWhen The Dark Knight Rises makes its grand theatrical debut this July, it will contain more footage shot with IMAX cameras than any feature film before it.

An exact minute count of how much IMAX footage will appear in The Dark Knight Rises has been tricky to wrangle up since Nolan began production last summer. Warner Bros. dropped a 40 minute claim late last year, roughly the same amount of footage that appeared in The Dark Knight. Later on, producer Emma Thomas suggested the IMAX footage could reach or exceed 50 minutes in length.

According to a new IMAX article at the Wall Street Journal, Christopher Nolan will edit in over an hour's worth of IMAX footage into The Dark Knight Rises. Exactly how much beyond an hour we don't know, but this is a clear indication that The Dark Knight Rises will be the biggest Hollywood IMAX spectacle yet.

Nolan has led the surge of IMAX working its way into feature films, demanding in negotiations with Warner Bros. that he would not film The Dark Knight unless he could utilize the 90lb IMAX cameras as he saw fit. Warner obviously agreed after the success of Batman Begins under Nolan's guidance, which brings us to possibly close to half of The Dark Knight Rises being presented in 70mm IMAX.

We'll get to see the one-hour plus worth of certainly amazing The Dark Knight Rises IMAX footage when it opens in theaters on July 20.
