Sony, however, has bigger plans. Joe Nakata, a deputy general manager for Sony's 3D strategy unit, has confirmed that Sony is ramping up conversion processes in India to apply 3D technology to older catalog films. And he expects the first benefactors of this strategy to hit stores in roughly a year's time.
Though an upcoming film like the Spider-Man reboot is a guaranteed Blu-ray 3D release, older titles like Ghostbusters and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man would be prime candidates for the process. Imagine Slimer or Spider-Man flying at you in 3D? There are scenes in each film to support this, and Sony would be foolish not to look at their "big guns" for this initiative.
Other speculative early targets for Sony's catalog Blu-ray 3D library are 2012, Michael Jackson's This Is It (sequences were shot in 3D), Starship Troopers, Zombieland, Cliffhanger, Universal Soldier, District 9, Resident Evil and Hancock.
