Sony Announces Starhawk for PS3; First Screens and Details

May 16, 2011

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced Starhawk, a new third-person shooter from LightBox Interactive and Sony's internal Santa Monica Studio, is coming exclusively to Playstation 3 in 2012.

Starhawk (don't call it Starfox!) boasts traditional third-person shooter gameplay with a significant twist. At any time during either campaign or online multiplayer action, players can call for structures, land and air vehicles, or artillery from a dropship in orbit. The idea is that the battlefield is constantly changing and a pinch of real-time strategy is fused with frenetic shooting gameplay.

The game revolves around Emmett Graves, a gunman for hire drawn back to his home world to face a mysterious enemy and discover secrets about his family's past. Emmett is unique in that he's been exposed to the rare and valuable Rift Energy natural commodity that different factions are fighting over, but his mutation stopped midway so he maintains his humanity but benefits from powers the Rift Energy provides.

Look for more information and assets from Starhawk to come out of E3 early next month.
