Box Office Predictions Game: Megamind Battles Tyler Perry and Due Date

November 03, 2010

Will Ferrell will try to conquer the world as Megamind this weekend while Robert Downey Jr., originally slated to voice the blue villain, will try to survive a cross country trip with Zach Galifianakis. Tyler Perry is back with yet another ensemble comedy that will likely haul in the big bucks while Saw 3D and Paranormal Activity 2 try not to get scared out of business by the three big newcomers.

Last week player moviebob beat out the competition in our weekly Box Office Prophet Game and will score a consolation DVD as the Prophet beat the players 3-2. We didn't hit 50 players in the last round so this week the same prize, The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Blu-ray, is up for grabs if the players average scores top the Prophet for 3 of the 5 films. If we top 50 players this round and the Prophet wins then another prize will be added to the pot. Be sure to get your predictions in.

You can make your predictions for the five eligible films below once you are successfully logged in. The average player scores will update in real time as new predictions are entered. The entry period will close at 9pm PST Thursday, November 4, with this round's actual box office numbers being published here and the winner on the main Box Office Predictions Game page on Monday afternoon.

There are currently 44 players up against the Prophet

The entry period for November 5 - 7 has already ended. Follow the weekly results at the Weekend Box Office Prophet main page.

Due Date
Todd Phillips has his fingers crossed that lightning can strike twice with his next project after The Hangover. Despite the R-rating it opens big on over 3,200 screens and could give Megamind a run for its money. Never count out a movie, especially a comedy, starring Robert Downey Jr.
All: $31.6   Me: n/a   Prophet: $39.1   Actual: $32.7
For Colored Girls
Tyler Perry's latest has already seen a name change and is scoring a miserable 20% at Rotten Tomatoes. Critical response shouldn't affect this flick's business. Perry has a faithful and massive audience that religiously turns out for all his films. The last three have all opened over $23 million each. Opens on 2,000 screens.
All: $21.1   Me: n/a   Prophet: $27.5   Actual: $19.5
Megamind
Will Ferrell faces off against Brad Pitt in the latest big 3D animated film from Dreamworks. Paramount has been publicizing the heck out of this movie which is set to open on a whopping 3,500 screens. Expect big business once the higher 3D ticket prices are factored in.
All: $42.5   Me: n/a   Prophet: $49.4   Actual: $46.0
Saw 3D The Final Chapter
Saw 3D earned $22.5 million in its opening frame last weekend which would be a decent total if over 90% of the showings weren't in 3D. It will lose some 3D screens to Megamind and horror is always front-loaded so expect a sizable drop heading into weekend #2 for Jigsaw's supposed final outing.
All: $10.3   Me: n/a   Prophet: $8.6   Actual: $7.7
Paranormal Activity 2
Paranormal Activity 2 enters its third weekend after an expected tumble last weekend from $40 million down to $16.5 million. It's a long shot for the horror sequel to top $10 million given all the competition flooding theaters and Halloween being in the rearview mirror.
All: $7.5   Me: n/a   Prophet: $7.8   Actual: $7.1
