Paramount Stakes Two Terminator Genisys Sequels Release Dates in 2017, 2018

Paramount Pictures either loves how Terminator Genisys has come together or they are desperate for another franchise while other studios continue to ride the superhero train to riches. Either way, two more Terminator films have scored release dates with no actual guarantee either will ever see the light of day.

With post-production well underway on Terminator Genisys, Paramount has staked release dates for Terminator Genisys 2 and Terminator Genisys 3 on May 19, 2017 and June 28, 2018, respectively. Terminator Genisys doesn’t bow in theaters until July 1, 2015.

Don’t get fooled into thinking a new Terminator trilogy is a surefire bet. Terminator Salvation was originally planned to be the first in a new trilogy until it underperformed at the box office. A similar underwhelming debut by Genisys would likely put a stop to any script or pre-production development already underway.

With Terminator Genisys, Paramount hopes the Star Trek time travel reset formula strikes gold again and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke and J.K. Simmons can make Terminator a box office player in three of the next four years as a new alternate timeline plays out.

Terminator Genisys is directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World, Game of Thrones). He is not yet committed for either of the two planned sequels.
