‘Hitman’s Bodyguard’ Leads Another Miserable Box Office Weekend

Hitman's Bodyguard Box Office

One of the worst summer box office performances of the past quarter century is bleeding into Labor Day weekend where ticket sales are again struggling to gain any traction or momentum.

Hitman’s Bodyguard starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek continues its hold on the top spot with an estimated $2.4 million from Friday ticket sales. That puts it on pace to win the four-day holiday weekend with only $12 million, or roughly $3 million per day on average.

This will mark the third consecutive weekend that Hitman’s Bodyguard has come out on top.

At least Hitman’s Bodyguard is finding financial success despite its low tallies suggesting otherwise. With an estimated production budget of $40 million, Hitman’s Bodyguard will approach $60 million after this weekend and could trend upward of $75 million if word-of-mouth serves it well.

Expecting a box office twist and savior to drive up overall business at this point is like expecting the reels of an online casino gaming hub to spin up instead of down. Newcomers like Tulip Fever failed to blossom, and the return of Close Encounters of the Third Kind earned less than $500,000 as many await the forthcoming 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release.
