Guardians of the Galaxy UK International Trailer with New Footage including Rocket and Groot

Marvel’s latest Guardians of the Galaxy trailer from their UK arm tables the 80s mix tape and taps a little more into the story. As a result we get some new footage including more dialogue from Rocket and Groot, which is always a plus.

The trailer starts with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) briefly seen as a child, and then the moment at which he is abducted and whisked off to space. This is our first look at Quill before he grows up and becomes Star-Lord.

Marvel’s messaging remains consistent as the trailer kicks into gear. Guardians of the Galaxy is from the studio that brought us Thor, Captain America, etc., but it’s a whole new galaxy with a new set of heroes. Two of which happen to be a talking tree and raccoon.

Personally I feel as if Marvel is dropping the ball in their marketing as the average consumer not familiar with the comic property, which is the bulk of moviegoers, will not understand from these trailers that GOTG takes place in the same universe as The Avengers. I’ve seen it first hand at the cinema where a guy commented that it looked like B-movie garbage and an Avengers-wannabe, and he’d “maybe Netflix it.”

Regardless of the messaging, this trailer ends by throwing off a great Joss Whedon Firefly vibe as Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Star-Lord banter with one another, and then Groot (Vin Diesel) chimes in when it gets a little heated. All Gamora (Zoe Saldana) can do is roll her eyes.

Guardians of the Galaxy takes off in theaters on August 1.
