Everyone is being watched by creepy marble-shaped cameras in the first The Circle trailer starring Tom Hanks, Emma Watson, John Boyega, Patton Oswalt, Ellen Wong and Karen Gillian.
Watson drops her native British accent to play an American working at “The Circle” campus for the world’s largest tech and social media company. It’s founder, played by Hanks, is interested in his employees, especially Watson’s Mae character, living their life with full transparency. Secrets and blood are both waiting to be spilled.
It’s hard not to think of The Circle as a live-action version of the Watch Dogs video game with some The Social Network and Black Mirror thrown in for good measure. Watson’s rising star and exposure in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast should help The Circle pick up some additional eyeballs regardless of its genre.
The Circle is based on the bestselling novel by Dave Eggers. You’ll find it in theaters beginning April 27th, 2017.
