LEGO Dimensions made a couple big announcements to coincide with Gamescom in Germany earlier today. One is the formal reveal of Adventure Worlds in a new trailer, and the other will see two iconic cinema characters made into tangible LEGO mini-figure form for the first time.
Adventure Worlds are unlockable open worlds aligned to each of the game’s 14 entertainment properties. They are completely separate from the main story despite sharing some visual similarities, and a character from the corresponding Adventure World property is required to unlock it. Joel McHale, from the first LEGO Dimensions trailer, voices the robot X-PO will guide you into each Adventure World from a central hub.
The LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack includes Wyldstyle, Batman and Gandalf, and you will be able to unlock The LEGO Movie, DC Comics and The Lord of the Rings Adventure Worlds through the Starter Pack. Additional Adventure Worlds such as The Simpsons, Back to the Future, Scooby Doo, Portal, Dr. Who, Ninjago and others are only available by purchasing their Adventure World Packs.
A new Adventure World announced today is the Ghostbusters Adventure World Pack that comes with Dr. Peter Venkman, the Ecto-1 vehicle, and a Ghost Trap. Two separate Fun Packs come with the first-ever Slimer mini-figure and a Slime Shooter, and the first-ever Stay Puft Marshmallow Man mini-figure and Terror Dog.
It is unclear at this time if the Ghostbusters Adventure and Fun Packs will be available in stores when LEGO Dimensions launches on September 27.
