Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Release Date is December 5 for Wii U

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and amiibo launching on November 21 is getting all the attention, but there’s another Wii U exclusive due before the end of the year that deserves some attention and play time.

Nintendo has announced December 5 as the Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker release date for Wii U, the first video game to star Toad in the title role.  The Treasure Tracker gameplay mechanics were first introduced in Super Mario 3D World as a mini-game and have been expanded into its own title.

Amiibo support was previously announced for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker as one of four titles confirmed to interact with the upcoming figures. As part of the release date announcement, Nintendo confirmed that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will not be compatible with amiibo until sometime in 2015. What that interaction is remains to be seen.

Nintendo did use the language “select amiibo figures” so the expectation is that multiple amiibos will be able to interact with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker when that functionality is added next year via a patch or DLC.

Here’s a Nintendo Treehouse let’s play session with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker from E3 this past June. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker carries a retail price of $39.99.
