Default Star Wars: Clone Wars Animated (Impressions)

I'll be seeing this almost a week early and will chime in with quick thoughts before whipping up the "official" HDR review.

I suspect this will be better than the prequels based on what's been released so far.

I look forward to your review Dan. I'm kind of "meh" right now with the release, the trailer didn't do a whole lot for me.

I did really dig the other Clone Wars animated stories.

Me too. I'm kinda on the fence about this one as it looks good visually but I'm not sure how the story will pan out. Still has to be better than Menace and probably big parts of Clones.

The visuals are the part that are turning me off, it looks like a computer game cut scene from the late 90s...something out of Dark Forces.

I agree. I'm far from impressed.

Quick thoughts:

Clone Wars is a lot of fun and definitely worth seeing on the big screen, especially if you can find a DLP digital cinema. But it has clearly been designed to appeal to a wider demographic than any star wars property before it.

For every insanely cool battle sequence (the battle at the B'Omarr Monk Monastery is incredible and bests anything in the prequels) there's excessive battle droid slapstick humor, juvenile nicknames that never let up (R-tooie) and a new Padawan apprentice whose name might as well be Hanna Montana based on how she talks. Another new character is the most blatant cultural stereotype seen in Star Wars yet and I hope to never have to see him/her again.

But man, watching the walkers climb up the side of a mountain and struggle for footing while being rained upon by gunfire was some of the best star wars action yet. It also helps that Christopher Lee, Anthony Daniels and Samuel L Jackson lent their voices. Especially Lee, whose character is more prominent than the other two.

I have to admit the commercials are getting to me.

How long is the movie Dan?

After reading that I'm a bit wary of catching this in the theater though i'm sure the visuals are great.
Its those elements that ruined a good bit of the prequels. That and just bad script writing.
