Best Buy 4K UHD Blu-ray Ad Delivers Samsung TV and Player for Under $2K

The arrival of 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is upon us. Next Tuesday, March 1st is the official launch day for the latest home video disc-based format that promises basically better everything. Aside from a few leaks here and there, most early adopters will be headed out to the store on that date to pick up their gear and 4K movies.

Best Buy is hoping you come to their store for your 4K UHD Blu-ray needs as evidenced by this weekend’s ad featuring Samsung hardware and 4K titles from various studios including Fox, Lionsgate, Sony and Warner Bros. What’s crazy about the advertisement is how you can get up and running with a 4K setup for a lot less than Blu-ray a little over a decade ago.

Case in point: in 2006 the first Blu-ray player from Samsung would have set you back a cool $800. A low-end 50″ 1080p TV at that time was running in the $1,500-$2,000, so you were looking at well over $2,000. Even the introduction of PlayStation 3 in November 2006 for $599 meant spending over $2K for Blu-ray.

Now 10 years later you can grab a Samsung 60″ 4K UHD TV for $1,500 and the Samsung 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player for $399. How times have changed.

Check out the ad below that features The Martian on 4K UHD Blu-ray, my top pick for a launch day title. The Peanuts Movie on March 8th would be my second pick.
